We attended the European Geriatric Medicine Society (EuGMS) Conference in Reykjavik, Iceland, in September 2025 because of our keen interest in geriatric medicine and the chance to present a poster. Whilst there, we decided to participate in the CGA (Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment) Quiz that was taking place and entered as a pair. We decided to participate as we thought it would be a fun break between the talks and workshops that we had attended during the day.

There were roughly eighty people playing who had also attended the conference, and we were all split into teams of two to three. The questions asked were all relevant to assessing older patients and drew upon much of the literature and various clinical trials. There were also a few questions testing our knowledge about Iceland since the conference was being held in Reykjavik! As doctors early in our careers, we were not expecting to perform as well as the other participants, who were likely more senior and experienced geriatricians than us, but we answered the majority of the questions correctly, and ultimately we came out winning the quiz!

Following our surprise win, we took some photos for the EuGMS social media page and were asked to do an interview about our experience of the CGA Quiz. Neither of us had ever done anything like this before, so we were both very nervous, but our interviewer was very great and put us both at ease. It was amazing to do this in the beautiful honeycomb interior of the Harpa Conference Centre, which we both agreed was a very impressive venue for the conference!

Reflecting back, we both thoroughly enjoyed our experience of the CGA Quiz and thank the quiz organisers for this opportunity. It was definitely a surprise, and we are very grateful to have won two tickets to attend the EuGMS conference in Lille, France 2026. We are very much looking forward to attending next year!
