The 21st EuGMS Congress will always remain an unforgettable milestone in our careers.
Not only from a scientific perspective, but also because of the pure nature of Iceland — the unique rainbows that appeared every day, the peaceful silence of the city, and the crystal-clear air that inspired us.
The congress began with the SIG meetings, where the results of ongoing projects were introduced and the accomplished tasks were presented by the chairs and members. As members of the SIG on Nutrition, we were proud to see our mentor, Prof. Gülistan Bahat (one of the SIG on Nutrition co-chairs), summarize our two studies on oral nutritional supplement (ONS) use and healthcare professionals’ knowledge of ONS usage. She also invited colleagues across Europe who were willing to join and conduct these studies in their own countries.
On the afternoon of the first day, we were at the ECGI stand to promote the initiative. Due to overlapping short poster presentation sessions, we could welcome only a limited number of Young Geriatricians or Lovers of Geriatrics — yet we happily and enthusiastically shared what had been achieved and what is yet to come in the ECGI over the past year.
The second day of the congress started with the CGA Quiz session, and we would like to warmly congratulate this year’s winners.
Although it was quite difficult to choose which sessions or lectures to attend, we had already prepared a list of “must-sees” before arriving in Iceland. Yet, despite our planning, our minds often lingered on the sessions we couldn’t attend.
Both of us had chairing/moderating and poster presentation duties. We were, indeed, very excited about our very first chairing experiences! Fortunately, our co-chairs were highly experienced and helped us feel more confident and less nervous. These moments were truly unforgettable.
Moreover, we met many distinguished academicians who inspired us through their remarkable contributions to Geriatric Medicine.
Last but not least, one of the most exciting and surprising moments was our interview with Prof Jean-Pierre Michel, the winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award, as chairs of the ECGI Blog Working Group.
✨ Stay tuned for that eye-opening interview!
